The Architecture of Sounds started in 2015 when I was in Portugal for three months, in an artistic residence
at the Musibéria Cultural Centre in Serpa, where I decided to start an investigation under three different points of view.
The first one has to do with the shape and the material that I’d had available there what is usually, what I consider for making decisions at the time of constructing these instruments.
The second one was regarding the music composition,
the musical part, how this architecture is built from the sound that comes from the instruments that have already a shape, that have a timbre, that have its own materials.
One of the songs we recorded, for instance, called Dreams, which is a composition by John Cage, wants something more subversive than dreams, from the point of view of the construction. But even then we can imagine the sounds of these dreams.
And the third approach is on how these instruments and these composition sounds could be disposed of in space.
Having in mind that music shows frequently happen in theatre venues or in venues with a stage.
My idea was to somehow change it. And that’s what I have been planning.
So, during this artistic residence process, the compositions were created, and when I was still in Portugal, I recorded a series of compositions and improvisation, and I returned to Brazil with some recorded material, which I kept aside because I had other projects in priority at that time.
So I did the Revoada, I did the Marimbaia, while that material was maturating. In 2018 I got to that, listened to it again.
Thought about it and realised that I had in hands
some interesting and promising material.
That was when I started to think an structure
for this album and got in contact with the guys from the label Spiral Records, in Japan.
They listened to it, liked it, and we talked a lot, they made some suggestions and proposals
I took some things from this material and recorded new songs such as Berro Berro, Raga Nagô, Oca ôca and O Jardim.
These four tracks became part of the album.
As other recordings from Portugal, in 2015.
Then I sent the material of this album to them in Japan for mastering and mixing. And the album was released there in 2019. Now, in 2020 the album was launched in
streaming platforms, and so it can now be listened to from anywhere in the world. The sounds are out there now,
in the cosmos.
